First In-Class Essay

The day has finally arrived: your first in-class essay! We've spent two weeks discussing rhetoric and how it appears in different kinds of media--commercials, YouTube videos, and feature-length magazine articles.

I'm excited to read your essays and want to make sure you know what to do in class today.

Instructions:
If hand-writing your essay--please, please, please write clearly and legibly. If you are writing with a pen, white-out tape will help with this task. If I can't read your analysis, you might lose points regardless of how excellent it is.

If typing your essay (which is the majority of you)--create a Google Doc with your topic sentences and thesis statement and share it with me. I will be monitoring your typing throughout class to make sure you are not copying and pasting an essay you wrote over the weekend. Print essays when finished.

When turning in your essay, please make sure you have--
1) a hard copy of essay,
2) an essay outline ("skeleton"), and
3) MLA header and formatting.*
Note: I do not require a Work(s) cited today. Your essay content is what is most important.

Lastly, don't forget to leave yourself time to PROOF READ before you hand in your essay. I would set aside the last 5-10 minutes for this task. Essays do not need to be a specific length, but they do need to show a clear introduction, body paragraphs (analysis), and conclusion. I do not require a specific number of body paragraphs.
